These wisemen are traveling to meet the baby Jesus. We do not know officially how many wisemen there were but we assume that there were at least 3 based on the present given to the Christ child. I find this story quite inspiring and interesting at the same time. These men came far from a distant land and were always seeking for the sign that Christ had been born. It seems that ever since that sign was given, they journeyed to see the Savior of the world for themselves. These had to be holy men to have known about the sign and to want to make such a sacrifice to meet Christ. Undoubtedly they would return home and be special witnesses of Christ to others who would never, in this life, have the chance to see him for themselves and witness the miracles that those in Jerusalem would see during Christ's ministry.
