      Story Behind the Art
In the depths of a raging tempest, a figure emerges, a beacon of calm amidst the chaos. Inspired by Matthew 14:22-33, I labored to capture the profound contrast between the tempestuous sea and the serene figure of the Savior Jesus Christ. The disciples, adrift in a storm of fear and doubt, mirror our own human struggles. As Jesus walked towards them, his voice, a clarion call of courage, pierced the tempestuous roar, saying "Take courage! Be not afraid!" Jesus' presence, a beacon of strength and calm, offers a message of hope and reassurance.
I wanted to create a visual metaphor for the strength and enduring power of faith and the comforting knowledge that even in the darkest of times, there is a guiding light that we can look to for strength to lead us through. Jesus, a symbol of hope and reassurance, stands as a testament to the enduring power of the divine.
I tried to convey with bold rough strokes the turbulence of the tempest while centering the focus on the strength of Christ's power to save us, so we can internalize Jesus' words to "Take courage! Be not afraid!" May this artwork serve as a reminder that even when life's storms rage around us, there is always a guiding light to illuminate our path and give us the courage to press on.

      About the Artist
Layne Haacke, an artist residing in the heart of the Ozarks in Missouri, is a laid-back lefty who can't resist doodling with his pencil. He is a die-hard sports fan, father of three boys, amateur philosopher, and humble believer in Jesus Christ our Savior. Classically trained at Brigham Young University in illustration and visual arts, He has always veered toward creative expression. He was a founding Member of the A cappella singing group InsideOut that performed at venues across the country at the turn of the century, producing 6 Albums. Layne’s art, rich with religious themes and serene depictions of Jesus Christ, aims to share the peace and beauty he sees through his unique perspective.
