What is the promise of Zion? In Yongsung Kim's painting Rest, inspired by Jeremiah 31:12, the imagery of a lush and vibrant forest reflects a soul nourished by divine grace. Just as the trees,the grasses, and the flock are sustained by life-giving water, so too the soul is replenished by the spiritual nourishment that comes from a deep connection with God. The serene scene invites reflection on the promise of restoration and renewal, where the soul, like the garden, finds its rest in the presence of the divine.

They will come and shout for joy on the heights of Zion; they will rejoice in the bounty of the LORD— the grain, the new wine and the olive oil, the young of the flocks and herds. They will be like a well-watered garden, and they will sorrow no more.

Yongsung Kim spent his youth in the beautiful countryside of Korea, and still resides in Korea today. The main theme of his work are primarily Jesus Christ and Christianity. In a world with an increasing culture of violence and darkness, Yongsung Kim wants to shed the light of Jesus Christ to a new generation. Rather than the world’s often heavy and grim depiction of Jesus Christ, Yongsung Kim focuses on a bright, loving, and beautiful idea of Jesus Christ, utilizing portrayals of familiar scenes of nature to help it enter the heart of the observer.
