Rescue Me

There is a bible verse that says something like: “Pick me up as I am sinking in this deep water, take me out of the water, and lead me to safety.” I painted this for desperate hearts and to let them know they are not alone. The isolation and loss of covid left so many people with hardened hearts. Covid created a great deal of loss and isolation that left many people with hardened hearts and depression. Amid all this, what we can be sure of is Jesus, who will lift us up, save us, and lead us into light and life. When it is hard and chaos is all around me, I give my heart to and depend on Jesus. It is He who hugs us tightly and pulls us out of everything. It is He who takes us back to solid ground.

"Rescue Me" by Yongsung Kim portrays Jesus extending his hand to lift a sinking person out of deep waters, symbolizing divine rescue and salvation from despair. This artwork offers hope and reassurance to those facing adversity, reminding viewers of Jesus's unwavering presence and compassion in times of hardship and isolation.

Yongsung Kim spent his youth in the beautiful countryside of Korea, and still resides in Korea today. The main theme of his work are primarily Jesus Christ and Christianity. In a world with an increasing culture of violence and darkness, Yongsung Kim wants to shed the light of Jesus Christ to a new generation. Rather than the world’s often heavy and grim depiction of Jesus Christ, Yongsung Kim focuses on a bright, loving, and beautiful idea of Jesus Christ, utilizing portrayals of familiar scenes of nature to help it enter the heart of the observer.
