Moses is one of the most influential players in the Abrahamic traditions and on a personal level, he uniquely captured my attention as a child. My first time reading the Exodus account of him encountering the burning bush was deeply influential in my spiritual formation as a child and I felt a strong spiritual compulsion regarding the veracity of the account such that I never seriously doubted the historicity of this event. In terms of artistic execution, I wanted to emulate something of the brushwork and surface texture I admire in the work of Rembrandt and Velazquez and wanted to explore how to present a figure like Moses using rim lighting to create the impression of a halo with a more naturalistic approach. Original artwork of Oil on Canvas 24 x 24. Painted 2025. Unframed.
